I now reside in Texas and I too have a group of female friends and we just decided that since none of us had any family close by during the time we were all raising our families, we would become a family and so we are. Every other Thursday we gather for breakfast and usually once a month we rotate having celebrations at each others homes. Our children think of each other as cousins and have been in each others' weddings, etc. I cannot imagine having closer relationships than I do with this group of women - we have been through so much together sharing joys, tragedies, good times and bad, trying to diet, adjusting to aches and pains of growing older but always finding laughter - they are my sisters.

The Girls from Ames reminds me of my two college roommates. We are quite different from the Ames girls. In our case, we have very little in common except that we have always accepted each other's idiosyncrasies. We don't care much for each other's friends or husbands, but the three of us go away for a weekend each year. The older I get, the more often I hear about other friends that do this, so I think "The Girls From Ames" will hit a chord.

I have always wanted friends that would stand the test of time. Although God has sent many deep and sometimes critical friendships to me, I have not had the privilege of knowing someone so intimately for so many decades. What a tremendous treasure you all have in eachother. Like a life raft that you can climb into whenever the waves are too high or you just need to get out of the water for bit.
